Snow float points began to operate in Moscow

Deputy Mayor of Moscow in the Moscow Government Pyotr Biryukov announced the start of operation of snow rafting points in the Russian capital.
“Specialists of the Municipal Services Complex have prepared 56 stationary snow-floating points for work in the autumn-winter period; their total capacity allows for the disposal of about 650 thousand cubic meters of snow per day,” Biryukov noted. He emphasized that all structures meet modern safety requirements and do not harm the environment.
The deputy mayor indicated that specialists had checked in advance and, if necessary, repaired the systems and structures of snow rafts. In particular, as Biryukov noted, during the preparatory period the operation of pumping and power equipment, signaling and warning devices were tested, and pipelines and shields were inspected, which provide protection for snow-alloy chambers from damage by snow and ice. He also clarified that the capital carried out repairs to crusher separators, floor gratings, metal beams, frames of snow chambers and sand traps.
The head of the Municipal Economy Complex recalled that snow melting points operate by using the heat of wastewater to melt the snow mass.
“The snow is dumped into a receiving hopper equipped with crusher separators for grinding, then it enters a special compartment where wastewater is supplied at a temperature of at least 10 degrees,” explained the deputy mayor of the capital. He added that the garbage subsequently settles in sand traps, the melt water is discharged back into the sewer and goes to the treatment plant, where it undergoes a full cycle of mechanical and biological treatment.
