Smolensk region will receive federal support for the development of sports in the region

The Smolensk region will receive federal support for the development of sports infrastructure in the region. Relevant issues were discussed at a working meeting between Acting Governor Vasily Anokhin and Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin.
As the head of the region noted, today sport is an integral part of the life of the Smolensk region and is aimed at the leisure of young people, which helps to reduce its outflow to other regions:
“We must create conditions so that they have something to do not only in the capital of the subject, but also in small towns. The key is for the population to be healthy and for young people to really have something to do.”.
During the meeting, the head of the region focused Oleg Matytsin’s attention on the Yelninsky district, where the 144th Guards Motorized Rifle Division is located, the servicemen of which are actively participating in a special military operation. Despite this, Vasily Anokhin emphasized, there are no sports facilities in Yelnya:
“Therefore, dear Oleg Vasilyevich, I appeal to you to consider the possibility of building a sports facility there, including for military personnel who return from the combat zone, their families.”.
As part of the event, the parties reached an agreement regarding the inclusion of Yelnya in 2024 in the federal Business Sprint project, with the subsequent construction of a modular sports hall there.
Separately, at the meeting, the issue of transferring to 2024 the funds that were provided for the construction of open-type sports and recreation complexes in Monastyrshchyna and Yershichi was considered.
The Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin expressed his gratitude to the Acting Governor of the Smolensk Region for paying close attention to the development of sports and education in the fields of physical culture and sports in the region:
“Absolutely right – this is important not only for raising champions, but also for creating a stable developing society”.
Summing up, the Minister noted the fulfillment in the Smolensk region of the indicators of the federal project “Sport is the norm of life” and the corresponding positive dynamics:
“I will give instructions on the construction of open-type sports and recreation complexes in 2024 to work out this issue”.
