Smolensk NPP: the final of the IES-Basket School Basketball League Championship was held in Desnogorsk

At the basketball competitions within the framework of the IES-Basket Championship among teams of boys and girls born in 2006 and younger, there was a fight for reaching the finals of the Central Federal District.
8 teams from Smolensk, Desnogorsk, Roslavl, Demidov, Vyazma and Safonov – winners of the qualifying stages – gathered at the Desnogorsk sports and recreation center “Desna”. Total for the 2023-2024 season. 185 teams from 23 municipalities of the Smolensk region took part in the Championship.
As a result of a stubborn struggle, Safonov’s team won bronze medals in a match with a team from Vyazma. The battle for leadership broke out between the teams of school No. 1 in Desnogorsk and school No. 19 in Smolensk. The Smolensk team won with a score of 70:64, securing access to the finals of the Central Federal District.
The boys from Desnogorsk were considered one of the favorites at the regional stage. In the semi-finals against the team from Safonov, they initially experienced difficulties, but then in the second half of the match they were able to create a comfortable advantage, winning with a score of 87:56. In the final, despite the difficulties, the Desnogorsk team managed to reduce the gap, but the Smolensk team retained the lead. The defeat was disappointing, but the coach emphasized that it should make the team stronger for future games and competitions. Roman Klimenkov was recognized as the best player at school No. 1 in Desnogorsk.
