Chinese football club Shanghai Shenhua has appointed Leonid Slutsky as head coach. The former head coach of the Russian national team and CSKA will replace Wu Jingui.

The appointment is announced on the football club’s social network page Weibo. Leonid Slutsky will lead the team from January 1, 2024. The duration of the contract is not specified.

Shanghai Shenhua plays in the Chinese Super League. Founded in 1993, became the national champion in 1995. Last season took fifth place in the standings. In 2004–2005, the club was headed by Russian Valery Nepomniachtchi.

Leonid Slutsky led the Russian national team in 2015–2016. He coached Russian football clubs “Moscow”, “Krylya Sovetov”, CSKA, “Rubin”, English “Hull City” and Dutch “Vitesse”. CSKA, under the leadership of Leonid Slutsky, became the champion of Russia three times, twice won the Russian Cup and twice won the Russian Super Cup.
