Slovenia has become the first Slavic country to allow same-sex marriage, Euronews reports.
The Slovenian Parliament has allowed same-sex marriages in the country, as well as the adoption of children by such couples.
The vote for the relevant amendment in Parliament took place after the decision of the Constitutional Court that the definition of marriage as a union of a man and a woman discriminates against sexual minorities. 48 deputies voted in favor, 29 voted against, and one abstained.
The Slovenian opposition has already criticized the court’s decision and organized several rallies against the new law.
In 2015, a referendum was held in Slovenia, in which 63% of citizens opposed the legalization of same-sex marriages.
