Slovakia is going to give Ukraine fighter jets that no longer fly

MiG-29 fighters available in Slovakia will no longer fly, and pilots are not being trained for them. In addition, the storage of fighters leads to unnecessary costs. This was stated by the Minister of Defense of Slovakia Jaroslav Nagy, whose words are quoted by the Bratislava online publication Teraz.
“Donating these planes to Ukraine would not lower the republic’s defense capability,” the minister said. “Besides, 50-60% of their cost would be compensated for our country through European global mechanisms.”
According to Nagy, only four pilots in the Slovak Air Force are now able to fly the MiG-29.
During negotiations on February 9 on the sidelines of the EU summit in Brussels, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asked Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger for the supply of Slovak MiG-29 fighter jets. In response, Heger promised that Slovakia would do everything to comply with the request.
