Slovakia intends to reconsider defense agreement with the United States

Slovakia will review the defense cooperation agreement with the United States, the country’s Defense Minister Robert Kaliniak said at a meeting with the US Ambassador. Minister’s statement published on the Facebook page (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
“We have said that we value good relations with Western partners, but we are not like previous slave governments [Словакии]. <...> We conveyed the position of the Slovak government to the American ambassador at the meeting – we will not send new supplies from Slovak ammunition depots to Ukraine and the defense agreement will have to be changed,” he wrote.
He added that “what was most gratifying was that both sides agreed that dialogue is the path to mutual prosperity.”
On October 25, Robert Fico, whom the media calls a politician of pro-Russian views, officially entered as Prime Minister of Slovakia. Previously, Fico already served as Prime Minister of the country in 2006–2010 and 2012–2018.
Fico promised to stop military aid to Ukraine, he also criticized sanctions against Russia and threatened to veto Kyiv’s invitation to NATO. The Kremlin called the accusations against Fico absurd. Even before Fico was appointed prime minister, Slovak President Zuzana Caputova decided to postpone the transfer of a new military aid package to Kyiv, since this step had been agreed upon under the government of Ludovit Odor.
