Slovakia halved the basic benefit for refugees from Ukraine

The Slovak government has halved the amount of the basic allowance, which is used to calculate compensation to property owners who provide housing to refugees from Ukraine over 15 years of age. The Slovak Cabinet of Ministers approved such a document on Wednesday, February 21.
The purpose of this resolution is to adjust the amounts paid for the accommodation of refugees.
Previously, citizens who provided housing to refugees from Ukraine in Slovakia could receive compensation in the amount of 10 euros per day of stay for a person over 15 years of age and 5 euros per night of stay for a person under the age of 15.
From now on, the benefit for providing housing to any Ukrainian refugee will be 5 euros per day.
Since the start of the conflict in Ukraine, millions of refugees from that country have flooded Europe. If in the first months of the crisis they were welcomed with open arms, then after almost two years the enthusiasm of European countries has waned. Now in one, now in another state benefits are starting to be cut for Ukrainian guests.
In Germany, the media are raising the question why most Ukrainian refugees do not work. According to statistics, no more than 25% of representatives of this category have found something to earn a living besides receiving benefits.
