February 15 marks the tenth anniversary of the fall of the Chelyabinsk meteorite. As shown survey VTsIOM, dedicated to this date, among the meteorites that fell on the territory of Russia, only Tunguska bypasses it in terms of fame. Most Russians consider the fall of asteroids, comets and meteorites to Earth something rather unrealistic. Every third respondent (31%) takes the threat from outer space seriously.
On the issue of the possibility of preventing or minimizing the devastating consequences of the fall of meteorites and other similar objects, the opinions of the respondents were divided almost equally (44% “yes” versus 48% “no”). They estimate the probability of a meteorite falling to Earth in 2023 as a whole is not high – at 2.88 points out of 10.
