Skoltech announced the creation of the first Russian 5G base station

The first domestic 5G base station was created in Russia. About it informed TASS, citing a report from the National Technology Initiative (NTI) Foundation, which, together with the Skoltech Institute, was developing the station.

“We successfully completed a three-year project to create the first production sample of a domestic base station of the fifth generation of communication (5G). The work was carried out by Skoltech with the support of the NTI Foundation as part of the Digital Economy state program supervised by the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation.

In total, about 342 million rubles were spent on development, of which 300 million rubles. were awarded as a grant. It is assumed that by the end of 2023 about 100 base stations will be produced. The press service of the fund added that the first batch of equipment is already ready. A full-fledged launch of projects may occur in 2023-2024.

It is specified that several friendly countries have already shown interest in the development. According to the representative of the fund, the technical characteristics of the Skoltech base station can be comparable to modern samples of foreign equipment. The press service stressed that the peak speed of mobile Internet reached 1.4 gigabits per second.

Now several companies are engaged in the creation of base stations in Russia. In particular, the development of 4G and 5G base stations is carried out by Spektr of Rostec, 4G and 5G stations based on Open RAN by Skoltech. Earlier, the Ministry of Digital Communications reported that all four federal telecom operators signed forward contracts for the purchase of Russian-made telecom equipment. We are talking about the supply of 70,000 domestic cellular base stations, said one of the sources of Vedomosti.

How wrote at the end of December, Vedomosti, in accordance with the plans of the government, 4G networks on Russian equipment will appear only in 2025 – then 6 million people will connect to them, in 2026 – 10 million people, and in 2030 – 100 million people . In 2024, 300,000 people will receive communication services using 5G on Russian equipment, in 2025 – 700,000 people, in 2026 – 1.5 million people, in 2027 – 5 million people, in 2030 .- 50 million people, according to the roadmap.
