Skirmish on Pakistan-Afghanistan border

[ad_1]

On Wednesday night on the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan there was a firefight between the military, reported agency Associated Press.

The Pakistani authorities said that the Taliban (the Taliban movement is recognized as terrorist and banned in Russia) fired at the border post in Kurram, killing three Pakistani soldiers.

Representatives of the Taliban, in turn, said they were trying to prevent the construction of a checkpoint near the border by Pakistani forces. According to them, several Taliban approached them with a call to stop construction, but they opened fire on them.

The history of the Taliban and Pakistan is closely connected: it was the Pakistani intelligence ISI that organized the Taliban in the past, and also contributed to its coming to power in 1996 and in 2021. Relations between the Taliban government and Pakistan, its last ally in the region, began to deteriorate soon after the Taliban came to power. So already in December 2021, the Taliban fired at the border posts of the Pakistani military, informed Interfax.

Representatives of the Taliban came to power once again in August 2021, after the withdrawal of American troops from the country. Since then, Moscow has not officially recognized the Taliban as the legitimate government of Afghanistan, but has been cooperating with representatives of the movement.
