On the border of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan there was a skirmish between the border guards of the two countries. About it informs TASS with reference to the Border Service of the Kyrgyz State Committee for National Security (GKNB).

“On September 14, an incident with the use of weapons occurred on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border,” the press service of the border service said. It is specified that the shootout took place in the Bulak-Bashi area of the Batken region of Kyrgyzstan.

According to the Kyrgyz side, the border detachment met Tajik border guards, who violated “previously reached agreements” and took up combat positions “on an undescribed section of the state border.” As a result, the Tajik side ignored the demand to leave the territory and opened fire. In response, the Kyrgyz border guards also used weapons.

The border service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan pointed out the use of mortars by Tajik border guards. As of 06:30 Moscow time, the shootout continued periodically, the Kyrgyz border service said. According to preliminary data, there were no dead or injured from the Kyrgyz side.

Also, the head of the Batken regional department of the border service held telephone conversations with the head of the Sughd regional department of the border service of Tajikistan. It is noted that the parties scheduled a meeting to stabilize the situation.

The countries do not have agreements on some sections of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, so clashes between border services periodically occur on these sections. So, in June, a skirmish took place between the Tajik border post “Keh” and the Kyrgyz post “Bulak-Bashy”. Kyrgyzstan accused the Tajik side of using mortars and grenade launchers.
