Olympic medalist Golikova and world championship medalist Lalenkova win on the first day of the 3rd stage of the Russian Cup in speed skating.
The third stage of the Russian Cup in speed skating started on January 10 in Chelyabinsk. On the first day of competition, women and men had three starts.
Among the winners are the bronze medalist of the 2022 Olympic Games, the 2021 world champion Angelina Golikova (won the 500 m) and four-time world championship medalist Evgenia Lalenkova (won the 3000 m). The silver medalists of the Russian Cup stage were the winners of the world championships in short track Ekaterina Efremenkova (3000 m) and Ekaterina Konstantinova (team sprint), who this season are trying their hand at speed skating.
Competitions are held from January 9 to 12 at the Ural Lightning Ice Palace in Chelyabinsk. The skating rink is located at an altitude of 222 meters above sea level, therefore it is considered flat, but it is the highest among indoor skating rinks in the Russian Federation.
The first two stages of the Russian Cup were held in October and November in Kolomna and St. Petersburg. Points scored by athletes at the stages will be taken into account at the Russian Cup Final, which will be held from February 23 to 26 in Kolomna.
