They have two questions for the deputies: where to live and how much

“There will be specialists in the country if they can survive on such a scholarship” – deputy Nina Ostanina saw this poster in the hands of a student-age girl this morning at the entrance to the State Duma building. She told her colleagues about this at the plenary meeting. Where to live and what to live on are the two main questions that students ask Duma members, said the head of the State Duma Family Committee. She stated that the protection of students, and especially student families, is not yet very successful.

– Frankly speaking, it doesn’t work out very well with defense. If we judge by the vote a day ago on the gradual increase in scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students, we will have to see students in single pickets at the entrance to the State Duma for a long time,” Ostanina noted. “Today, anyone who entered through the second entrance probably saw a young girl with a poster: “In The country will have specialists if they can survive on such a scholarship.”

Ostanina said that the State Duma recently held parliamentary hearings with students. Duma members from all factions spoke. The students listened. Then they were asked: “Well, how do you like our measures?”

“They answered: “They didn’t understand anything.” Answer two questions: where to live and what to live on?” – said the head of the Family Protection Committee.

Ostanina suggested not to be disingenuous: the deputies have answers to both questions. From the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, she proposed adopting a program of family-type hostels. In Russia, only 1% of students are raising children – it won’t be that expensive for the treasury.

“28 thousand students are raising children out of 3 million student fraternity,” Nina Ostanina revealed the statistics and emphasized: such dormitories should be within walking distance from the university. There should be children’s rooms, medical stations, and nurseries. This will help young mothers and fathers combine education with family life.

“It won’t be possible to give them a lift to their grandparents, because we have increased their retirement age,” the deputy stated.

The communists also found an answer to the second question. They propose to increase the stipend. The current size is shameful: 11% of the cost of living for students and 20% for graduate students.

– It is clear that these scholarships need to be increased at least gradually. You can’t raise a child with three or four thousand,” Nina Ostanina rightly noted.

Another measure of support for student families originally from Kaliningrad.

– I met with Governor Alikhanov, and he said that if a child is born in a student’s family, a one-time payment of 345 thousand. And for the next three years, a payment of 20 thousand for this young family. If we extended this measure to all other regions, if we helped from the federal budget those regions that are considered subsidized, students would applaud us, the head of the family committee is sure.

Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin decided to pacify the ardor of his colleague from the Communist Party and turned the arrows to the regions. After all, the lion’s share of social issues for families in general and large families in particular are their issues. As for the birth rate, we need to start with ourselves, noted the chairman of the lower house.
