Single-mandate candidates may begin to be excluded from the list of candidates for errors in documents

The government submitted to the State Duma bill, prohibiting the admission to participation in elections of citizens who submitted documents with erroneous data at the stage of compiling lists of candidates for single-mandate constituencies. The bill clarifies that we are talking about errors and typos that “do not allow one to reliably identify a citizen.”
Amendments are proposed to be made to three laws – “On the basic guarantees of electoral rights and the right to participate in a referendum of citizens of the Russian Federation”, “On the elections of deputies of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation” and “On the federal territory “Sirius””. Errors and typos may become grounds for exclusion from the list of candidates until such a list is certified, the document says.
The explanatory note to the draft states that the bill was developed within the framework of the decision of the Constitutional Court of June 7, 2023. The court then ruled that errors that do not interfere with the identification of candidates cannot be a condition for refusal.
