Acting President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Randhir Singh said that a special selection system for the next Olympics would be introduced at the Asian Games for Belarusian and Russian athletes. He told The Indian Express about it.
The organization, he said, is developing a qualification scheme so that “athletes from Russia and Belarus can compete for Olympic places by participating in Asian tournaments.” According to the idea of the developers of the special system, the Russians and Belarusians will not “eat up” the quotas intended for Asian athletes with their successful participation.
Earlier it was reported that the OCA invited Russia and Belarus to take part in the Asian Summer Games. They will be held in Hangzhou, China from September 23 to October 8, 2023.
The 2024 Summer Olympics will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11.
