About 2.4 thousand shells from the Great Patriotic War, raised from the bottom of the Gilzovaya Bay, have been neutralized in Sevastopol since June, said the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Alexander Kurenkov. He clarified that work in the water area has been underway since the beginning of summer.
According to the minister, only in the first days of August, more than 800 munitions from the times of the Great Patriotic War were removed from the water. “These are artillery shells, mortar mines, hand grenades, fuses of German and Soviet production,”— told Mr Kurenkov.
These munitions are lifted from the depths with the help of air-filled pontoons and taken to a special range, where they are blown up. The head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations added that since 2021, almost 8 thousand explosive objects have been defused.
July 11 in Sevastopol destroyed an aerial bomb during the war. July 18 more than 700 munitions from the times of the Great Patriotic War were destroyed at a special training ground. August 6 in Sevastopol, a sea mine was found drifting in the sea.
