Simonyan called for legislative resolution of the issue of Russian citizenship based on ethnicity
The editor-in-chief of MIA Rossiya Segodnya and the RT television channel Margarita Simonyan called for legislative resolution of the issue of Russian citizenship based on ethnicity for compatriots who live outside of Russia. She voiced this idea on the air of the program “Evening with Vladimir Solovyov” on “Russia 1”.
She also spoke about a meeting with the head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Alexander Bastrykin. During the dialogue, they touched on the topic of citizenship for Russians.
“We should stop being ashamed of ourselves, we should stop being ashamed of the word “Russian.” <...> “I just urge you to change the laws before it’s too late,” Simonyan noted. “I want to once again urge you to stop being ashamed of this – to give citizenship based on ethnicity.”
She recalled that similar actions are committed in Germany.
