In the event of a ban on the export of goods from the EU, Russia will purchase products from friendly countries. This statement was made by the Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation Anton Siluanov during his speech at the Knowledge marathon. The broadcast was conducted on the event website.
“We, you might think, except for those countries that impose these restrictions, there are no others! We will buy the same goods, or maybe better quality, from friendly countries, if necessary, ”he said.
On April 20, Bloomberg reported that the G7 countries are considering a near-total ban on exports to Russia. G7 officials are discussing the idea ahead of the May 19-21 summit in Japan, according to sources. If such a decision is made by the G7, similar measures will be introduced by the rest of the EU countries. Now, by default, export is allowed, and restrictions apply only to certain products.
At the same time, TASS, citing a high-ranking representative of the EU claimsthat the G7 countries have not yet discussed plans for a complete ban on the export of goods to Russia.
The Kremlin pointed to the threat of such decisions to the global economy. “This can only lead to an increase in the trend of the global economic crisis,” declared Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, stressing that Moscow is “carefully” monitoring these discussions.
In addition, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, commented on the possible ban. He threatened EU withdrawal of Russia from the grain deal.
