In the area of the air base, located in the capital of Burkina Faso – Ouagadougou, shots were heard, according to a reporter from Agence France-Presse (AFP).
According to AFP, the sounds of gunshots were heard around 00:45 local time (03:45 Moscow time) in the city center.
To date, the reason for these shots is unknown, but it is worth noting that less than a year ago, in September 2022, a military coup took place in the country.
A military group led by 34-year-old artillery captain Ibrahim Traore carried out a coup d’état in Burkina Faso on September 30 last year. They announced the overthrow of the country’s president, Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, and the suspension of the constitution, government and political activity. Damiba, who himself came to power in January of the previous year as a result of a coup d’état, voluntarily resigned from the presidency on October 2 by signing a document to that effect. On 14 October 2022, the National Assembly of Burkina Faso unanimously appointed Traore as president of the transitional period.
