It is necessary to gradually increase the age of conscription into the army from 18 to 21 years, and the age limit from 27 to 30 years, transmits RIA Novosti with reference to Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.
“When recruiting the Armed Forces, gradually increase the age of conscription of citizens from 18 to 21 years, and raise the limit to 30 years. Provide an opportunity, at the request of citizens, to enter military service under a contract or be called up from the first day of joining the service, ”said the Minister of Defense.
In addition, Shoigu considers it necessary to increase the strength of the Armed Forces to 1.5 million servicemen, including 695,000 contract soldiers.
The draft age in Russia starts at 18 and ends at 27. The beginning and end of the military age comes on the day of birth. Any attempts to call for military service that do not correspond to these age indicators are considered illegal.
In May, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law abolishing the upper age limit for the conclusion of the first contract for military service. Before that, there was a restriction – from 18 to 40 years for Russian citizens and from 18 to 30 years for foreign citizens.
