In Russia, deliveries to the troops of the latest hypersonic missile “Zircon” have begun. Vladimir Putin and the head of the defense department Sergei Shoigu announced this at the board of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
According to the minister, the preparation of the Admiral Gorshkov frigate, which will be equipped with Zircons for combat service in the oceans, is at the final stage. Shoigu also said that due to NATO’s desire to build up military potential near the Russian borders and the upcoming expansion of the alliance, they require an increase in the supply of Kinzhal and Zircon missile systems to the Russian Armed Forces.
Project 22350 frigates of the Admiral Gorshkov type are among the most modern ships of the Russian Navy. The frigates are equipped with cells of the 3S14 universal shipborne firing system (UKKS), which allow to place Caliber-NK, Oniks and 3M22 Zircon missiles on board.
Shoigu announced back in August that the Zircon hypersonic missile was practically adopted by our army. According to the minister, only the necessary paper formalities remained.
3M22 Zircon is a Russian hypersonic anti-ship cruise missile being developed by NPO Mashinostroeniya. This missile is planned to replace the P-700 Granit heavy anti-ship missile.
