Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu presented Colonel General Andrei Mordvichev with the Golden Star medal and the general’s saber. By presidential decree, the Colonel General was awarded the title of Hero of Russia, the press service of the Ministry of Defense reported.
“This is the highest rank in our country and you certainly deserve it, so words of gratitude not only from me, but naturally from all those whom you are protecting today on all frontiers, you are doing it with dignity and confidence, which is why both the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Russia and the country appreciated your military work,” said Sergei Shoigu (quoted from Telegram channel Ministry of Defense).
On February 17, the Russian group of troops “Center” under the command of Colonel General Andrei Mordvichev took full control of Avdeevka. Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a congratulatory telegram to the Colonel General, in which he expressed gratitude to all the troops under the leadership of Andrei Mordvichev.
