Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu congratulated athletes, coaches and veterans on the 100th anniversary of CSKA and presented the club with the Order of Alexander Nevsky. This was announced on Saturday in the Russian defense department.
In an address to the participants of the solemn event, which takes place on Saturday at the Central Academic Theater of the Russian Army, Shoigu said: “I do not know a club in the world that would have such a history as CSKA.”
The minister added: “There is no such club that would have so many Olympic awards, so many world champions.”
Shoigu emphasized that history is determined by people.
And people, according to him, “these are names, these are surnames, these are titles, these are merits, these are feats.” And CSKA has it all. The head of the Ministry of Defense listed outstanding athletes: Vsevolod Bobrov, Anatoly Tarasov, Irina Rodnina, Vladislav Tretyak, Vyacheslav Fetisov…
“These are the people who made the history of our country, the history of not only CSKA, but the history of our sport,” he said.
Shoigu also thanked the veterans of the club, who contributed to its preservation in difficult times for Russia.
