Shoigu posthumously nominated Private Egorov to the title of Hero of Russia

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu posthumously nominated Private Dmitry Egorov from Yakutia for the title of Hero of the Russian Federation, who eliminated part of the Ukrainian assault group during the battle in the DPR, forcing the enemy to retreat. Private Egorov with the call sign “Suntar” served in the 155th Separate Guards Marine Brigade of the Order of Zhukov, a tactical formation of the Marine Corps of the Russian Pacific Fleet, the defense department said.

As part of a brigade unit, Egorov “took battle with superior enemy forces” near Novomayorsky DPR.

The Ministry of Defense revealed the details of this battle. According to the department, the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched a massive artillery strike with cluster munitions and tried to advance, and Egorov, assessing the situation, “took an advantageous position and was one of the first to engage the enemy.”

“During the battle, with continuous small arms fire, Dmitry eliminated part of the Ukrainian Armed Forces assault group, forcing the enemy to retreat. In this battle, Dmitry Egorov was seriously wounded, which became fatal for him,” the message says.

Private Egorov was nominated for the title of Hero of the Russian Federation “for heroism, courage and bravery shown in the performance of military duty.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin posthumously in January appropriated title of Hero of Russia to Sergeant Almaz Safin. The Kremlin then said that on January 14, Safin was the first to notice the advance of enemy reserves to the Kremennaya area. He promptly ordered to open fire, “thus forestalling enemy actions and an attempt at a surprise attack.” Shoigu noted on December 21, 2022 that during the special operation, 120 people received the title of Hero of Russia.
