The International Military Sports Council (CISM) adheres to the principles of apoliticality and does a lot to strengthen friendship between military personnel of different states, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said at a meeting in Moscow with CISM President Colonel Rolim Gomez. About it on Saturday informed press service of the Russian military department.

The International Military Sports Council brings together military personnel from 140 countries and is the third largest sports organization in the world, Shoigu said. He noted that the council “consistently adheres to the principles of apoliticality, fair fight and sports partnership”, and also does a lot to strengthen friendship between military personnel from different countries.

“This is especially important now, when destructive forces are trying to exclude Russia from all international sports federations,” the minister said.

According to Shoigu, next year Russia will host the first international games among students of pre-university educational organizations of the defense departments of the states that are members of the International Military Sports Council. In addition, in August 2023, Moscow will host the first international rugby-7 tournament, and in 2024 the Russian Federation plans to host the world triathlon championship, the regional championship in wrestling, as well as the first World Games among students of pre-university educational organizations defense departments of CISM member states.

Russia joined the International Military Sports Council in 1991. Since then, the country has hosted 14 world championships, the World Military Winter Games (2017), the World Cadet Games (2022), the European Conference (2000) and the General Assembly (2023).
