Shoigu: Leningrad and Moscow military districts are necessary to increase the effectiveness of troops

The creation of the Leningrad and Moscow military districts will improve the efficiency of troop control. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced this during a conference call with the defense department on Tuesday.

“Two interspecific strategic territorial associations of the Armed Forces have been created – the Leningrad and Moscow military districts. The measures taken will significantly increase the efficiency of command and control of troops and forces,” the minister said.

He also emphasized that due to the build-up of NATO’s military potential as a result of the entry of Finland into the alliance, and in the future Sweden, a decision was made to strengthen troop groups in the northwestern and western strategic directions.

Shoigu added that the Ministry of Defense will continue to improve the composition and structure of the army in proportion to emerging threats to the country.
