Shoigu mentioned the failure of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ counter-offensive in his New Year’s greetings

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu congratulated the military personnel on the upcoming New Year. In his congratulatory speech, he noted that “all the enemy’s plans went to waste.” At a departmental conference call on December 26, he saidthat the main task for 2023 – to disrupt the offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces – was successfully completed.

“The passing year will go down in the history of our Fatherland with new pages of military feats and unparalleled courage of Russian military personnel… All the enemy’s plans – thanks to your courage and selfless service to the Motherland – went to waste. The core of unbending determination and the will to win has always been and remains the soldier of the Russian army,” Shoigu said in his New Year’s speech, the text of which distributed press service of the Ministry of Defense.

According to him, assistance to the families of Russian military personnel will remain a priority for the department in the future.
