Shoigu checked the implementation of the state defense order at the Aviastar plant in Ulyanovsk

Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu checked the implementation of the state defense order at the enterprise for the production of Russian military transport aircraft in Ulyanovsk. About it reported press service of the Ministry of Defense.

“During a working trip to Ulyanovsk, the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, General of the Army Sergei Shoigu, checked the implementation of the state defense order at the enterprise PJSC Il – Aviastar of the United Aircraft Corporation, part of the Rostec State Corporation. The Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation inspected the production process of Il-76MD-90A aircraft, as well as repair and maintenance of An-124-100 aircraft,” the statement said.

During the inspection, Shoigu heard a report from the general director UAC Yuri Slyusar, who confirmed that all aircraft that need to be transferred to the RF Armed Forces by the end of the year will enter the troops within the time frame established by the contract.

Following the inspection, Shoigu held a working meeting with the leadership of the UAC and the relevant central military control bodies, the participants discussed the state and prospects for the development of military transport aviation. During the meeting, Shoigu noted that the Russian aviation industry, under the conditions of the special operation, was almost twice as high as “the load that was on military transport aviation during the most tense times of the Soviet Union.” At the same time, the load on enterprises continues to grow, Shoigu added.

At the same time, the Minister of Defense instructed to increase the fleet of aircraft, maintain existing aircraft in working condition and continue work on improving the Il-76 aircraft – to increase the flight range and their carrying capacity. In addition, Shoigu ordered to double the production volume of An-124 transport aircraft by 2025. “We now have engines, we have the capabilities and capacity to modernize these aircraft,” he added.

According to Shoigu, Russian developers managed to find a solution related to light transport aircraft, which will replace the An-72 and An-26. “Now we need to decide on the timing of how soon, and how quickly, we can implement this decision,” Shoigu added.

October 10 Shoigu inspected the work of the Ulyanovsk Mechanical Plant (UMZ; part of Almaz-Antey). During the inspection, Shoigu looked at the work of the workshops for the production of the Buk-M3 anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM), which are produced at the plant, and also heard a report from the head of the enterprise about his readiness to ahead of schedule transfer the next Buk-M3 division to the RF Armed Forces by the end of the month. Now it is “in final assembly, in configuration.”
