The priority task of the Russian Ministry of Defense for 2023 is to continue the military special operation in Ukraine until all the assigned tasks are completed, declared Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu at an extended meeting of the Board of the Ministry of Defense.
“The priority task for 2023 is to continue conducting a special military operation until the tasks are fully completed. Russian groupings of troops and forces to ensure the preservation of peace in Nagorno-Karabakh and Syria,” he said.
In addition, the Russian Armed Forces are faced with the task of implementing in full a set of measures for operational combat training with an emphasis on the threats caused by the further expansion of NATO to the east.
Earlier in December, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the special operation was “going on as usual,” the Russian army had no problems in the combat zone. The President explained that the process of resolving the conflict would not be easy and would take time. According to him, all parties will have to “accept the realities that are taking shape on the ground.”
Russia’s special operation in Ukraine began on February 24. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the protection of the inhabitants of Donbass, as well as the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, its goals. During the special operation, Russian troops took full control of the LPR, as well as most of the DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. Subsequently, these territories became part of Russia, and on October 19 martial law was introduced in the regions.
