Shamil Lakhiyalov may become president of the Football National League

Shamil Lakhiyalov, a former football player and current president of the Makhachkala club Legion, has been registered as a candidate for the presidency of the National Football League (FNL), the country’s second-highest football division.
The day before, the election commission completed the registration of candidates for the position of president of the FNL (includes the First and Second Leagues). Thus, Shamil Lakhiyalov and Executive Director of the FNL Nail Izmailov will compete in the elections for the post of head of the FNL.
Here is what Shamil Lakhiyalov said in a conversation with a correspondent of MK in Dagestan regarding the nomination of his candidacy for the post of president of the FNL:
“For seven years now I have been watching football with different eyes – not as a football player, but as a manager, and many things do not suit me. I often turn to the leadership of the FNL with proposals, but my initiatives are not being promoted. So I thought: rather than asking someone for something, it’s better to take it yourself and change it. So I decided to put forward my candidacy.”
One of the first changes that Lakhiyalov intends to implement if he is elected president of the FNL is to make football less expensive for small clubs.
“Football needs to be made easily accessible, and for that you need to make it less expensive. Today, a team from the Second Division, whose matches are attended by 100-200 people, cannot spend about 50 million a year. So we can lose the Second Division, ”the President of the Legion believes.
The election of the president of the FNL will be held on October 4 at a meeting of the general meeting of the clubs of the league. The clubs of the First and Second divisions of the FNL have the right to vote – a total of 83 clubs.
Lakhiyalov admits that he is not the favorite in this race.
“Today, of course, my competitor Nail Izmailov’s chances are preferable, because he is the executive director of the FNL and is aware of many things. But I am already talking with the clubs, I will contact the leaders with my program for the development of the FNL, ”the source said.
