The International Football Federation destroyed Ukrainian football due to the decision to suspend contracts with foreign players. Shakhtar General Director Sergei Palkin stated this to the German publication Bild.
In March 2022, FIFA allowed foreign players to suspend their contracts with Russian and Ukrainian clubs. This rule was supposed to expire in June of this year, but the federation extended it for another season.
According to Sergei Palkin, FIFA’s decision destroyed Ukrainian football, its foundation and competitiveness. At the start of the conflict, the club had 40 million outstanding transfer fees. It is common practice to pay in installments. However, after FIFA’s decision, the foreign players were able to simply leave, and all income disappeared.
The Federation always says that football is one big family. However, Ukrainian football was simply kicked out, the head of Shakhtar believes.
