Excited monkeys terrorize a town in Thailand

Macaques began to survive people from the city of Lopburi in Thailand. Gangs of monkeys fight among themselves on the streets of a populated area for territory, attack people and organize orgies. The Daily Star writes about this. It is noted that the reason for this behavior of the animals was the traditional “monkey buffet” festival.

The holiday began in 1989, since wild macaques were very attractive to foreign tourists. The animals were treated to sweets and soda. However, the abundance of sugar makes monkeys hypersexual and overly aggressive. As a result, the thirst for profit from tourists led to an uncontrolled growth of the macaque population.

The problems started during the pandemic. The festival was not held and the animals were deprived of their usual source of food and pleasure. After that they began to attack people. In early February, footage appeared of thousands of monkeys coming out into the city, and local residents hastily closing shop windows and hiding in their houses. Now people say that they are forced to live in a “reverse zoo”, where the man is in a cage and the monkeys are free.
