Sergio Ramos retires from Spain squad after talking to coach

Spanish footballer Sergio Ramos has announced on Twitter that he has retired from the national team. According to him, the day before he received a call from coach Luis de la Fuente Castillo and said that Ramos is no longer in his plans, no matter what game the player will show or how his career develops.

“I sincerely believe that this journey should have ended due to my decision or because my performances were not at the level worthy of the national team, and not because of age or other reasons that I did not hear directly, but which I definitely felt” Ramos wrote.

“Age is not a virtue or defect, it’s just a number that is not necessarily related to the quality of the game or skill level,” said the 36-year-old. He added that he admires and envies 37-year-old Luka Modric, 39-year-old Pepe and 35-year-old Lionel Messi, who continue to play for their national teams.

“Unfortunately, in my case this will not happen, because football is not always fair, and football is not always exclusively football,” Ramos wrote.

Sergio Ramos plays as a central defender for French club Paris Saint-Germain. He made his debut for the Spanish national team in 2005, having made 180 appearances for the national team during his career. With the national team, Ramos won the 2010 World Cup and two European Championships in 2008 and 2012. He began his club career at Sevilla, and in 2005 he moved to Real Madrid, for which he played 469 matches. In the Madrid club, he, in particular, became a five-time champion of Spain and a four-time winner of the UEFA Champions League Cup.
