Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, who is running for a new term, met with supporters and confidants on Tuesday at his public headquarters on ul. Pokrovka, the Moscow 24 TV channel reported. Cultural figures, doctors, athletes, heads of city enterprises and entrepreneurs, representatives of the Council of Veterans, volunteers, deputies and activists of United Russia were invited to the meeting.

“There are many familiar faces, this is not the first time we meet, many have come a long way: we have been working on a wonderful project called “Moscow” for 12 years. Thank you!” Mr. Sobyanin said to those gathered.

The mayor began the story about the successes of the capital with questions of the economy. “The fact that we need to deploy industry, the economy on the tracks of independent development and create our own competitive production, it became clear not today, but five years ago,” he stressed, saying that the current pace of development of the Moscow economy on average exceeds the average Russian twice . In recent years, Moscow has achieved an almost twofold increase in industrial production. The annual volume of investments reached 5.9 trillion rubles. In the capital, 119 million square meters have been built. m of residential and commercial real estate, 1.2 thousand km of new roads, 109 new metro stations were opened. More than a million citizens are participants in the housing renovation program. A unique digital ecosystem of 400 services has been created for residents.

The Mayor also touched upon the development of the urban environment, business climate, culture, sports, medicine and transport. In particular, he said that the city authorities would soon complete the modernization of all city clinics, and described the totality of planned transport projects as “a gigantic, huge project that is even mentally difficult to imagine.”

Elections of the mayor of Moscow will be held from 8 to 10 September. Citizens will be able to vote both in person at the polling station and online. In addition, this year Muscovites will be able for the first time to use the new electronic voting terminals that will be installed at each polling station. Five candidates were registered in the elections: in addition to Sergei Sobyanin, nominated by United Russia, this is a Moscow City Duma deputy and grandson of the Communist Party leader Leonid Zyuganov (KPRF), State Duma vice-speakers Boris Chernyshov (LDPR) and Vladislav Davankov (New People), as well as a deputy State Duma and the head of the metropolitan branch of “A Just Russia – For the Truth” Dmitry Gusev.

According to a recent Russian Field poll, 49% of Muscovites express their firm readiness to participate in the elections, 66% of whom intend to vote for Sergei Sobyanin. In second place by a wide margin is Leonid Zyuganov (5% of the vote).
