The Luzhniki Olympic Complex is hosting a celebration dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Moscow sports. More than 30 sites have been prepared for the guests of the sports festival. On his page on the VKontakte social network, the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, spoke about the Moscow sports festival and congratulated the townspeople on this anniversary.
“Of course, physical culture and sports developed in the city until 1923,” the mayor noted. “But it was then that the Supreme Council of Physical Culture and its Moscow branch were established.”
From this year, accordingly, the countdown of the modern era of the development of the capital’s sports begins. On the occasion of the anniversary, Luzhniki turned the space of the Olympic complex into a retrospective of the achievements of Moscow athletes over the past 100 years.
The holiday was attended by famous Russian athletes: figure skaters Alina Zagitova and Anna Shcherbakova, fencer Karina Aznavuryan. Professional athletes and coaches helped everyone to try new sports and test their strength.
As reported on the official website of the Mayor of Moscow, it is expected that over 200,000 people will attend the holiday at Luzhniki along with a festive concert.
