Sergei Kiriyenko visited Zaporozhye NPP – Kommersant

First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Russia Sergei Kiriyenko visited the Zaporozhye NPP and inspected the hydraulic structures. This was reported by the press service of the plant, adding that the water level in the cooling pond of the Zaporozhye NPP remains at around 16.67 m, there is no threat to the safety of the plant.

On June 6, the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, located in the Kherson region, broke through. This led to an uncontrolled discharge of water from the reservoir, which is necessary, among other things, for the operation of the cooling system of the Zaporozhye NPP. The system consists of tanks and internal channels that provide a constant circulation of water.

At the IAEA spokethat the water reserves in the tanks for cooling the systems of the Zaporizhzhya NPP will last for a month. The water level decreases by 5–7 cm per hour. Head of Rosatom Alexei Likhachev (the corporation includes the plant operator) declared on alternative water supply options for the plant, including “underground wells”.

Today, June 8, Sergei Kiriyenko also visited the territories of the Kherson region flooded as a result of the breakthrough of the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station: the cities of Golaya Pristan and Alyoshki, as well as temporary accommodation centers in Skadovsk.
