Sergei Kiriyenko explained to young political scientists who they need to fight

On Monday, the fifth forum of young political scientists “Digoria” opened in Nizhny Novgorod. Those who decide to sit on the sidelines should not be offended that their interests will not be taken into account in the future, Sergei Kiriyenko, First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration (AP), warned the forum participants. He also called on political scientists to engage in an “ideological war” in which they must oppose the “meanings” introduced by Western countries with their own, based on Russian values.
The cultural and educational center named after Sakharov “Mayak” unexpectedly became a platform for the fifth “Digoria”, the walls of which are decorated with a quote from the academician: “Progress is inevitable.” Recall that the Soviet physicist Andrei Sakharov was not only the creator of the hydrogen bomb, but also a well-known human rights activist and dissident, for which he is especially revered in liberal circles. The Digoria participants themselves rather position themselves as adherents of conservative values.
The main speaker at its opening (albeit via video link) was the first deputy head of the presidential administration, Sergei Kiriyenko, but before him, the audience was warmed up by the chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party, Leonid Slutsky. “What do you think about the statement of Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev regarding the possibility of using nuclear weapons?” a member of the forum asked him. The party member responded by criticizing the “rattling of nuclear weapons” and, of course, he meant that Russia’s opponents are engaged in this, who are even thinking about using a dirty nuclear bomb. “Dmitry Anatolyevich is a man with vast political experience, and in his characteristic manner he makes it clear that it is better not to deal with Russia using this weapon,” the liberal democrat explained.
Sergei Kiriyenko began his speech by reading a greeting from Vladimir Putin to the participants. It said that meetings of political scientists have become “traditional” and that they consider “a wide range of issues at the forefront of public attention.” The President wished that the current meeting would be held “in a creative and constructive manner.”
After that, Mr. Kiriyenko moved on to his own theses. He warned the forum participants that their own future depends on their active life position: “If you have sat on the sidelines, then you should not be offended that your interests are not taken into account in this new future. Because you didn’t take part in it.” At the same time, if last year the first deputy head of the Presidential Administration offered the Digorians to satisfy the needs of society for pride in the country, this time he called on them to participate in the “war”. According to Sergei Kiriyenko’s version, which he has publicly stated more than once, three wars are being waged against Russia – “hot”, economic and ideological, and it is precisely on the latter that political scientists are needed.
“The deepest is an ideological war, information-psychological, semantic. It is based on a war of meanings,” a representative of the Presidential Administration explained to the members of the forum. The West is attacking the values of Russians so that they abandon their history, believe in various stereotypes such as that Russian people are lazy, and as a result see no other way but to join Western civilization, Mr. Kiriyenko said. “To win this war, to be competitive here, we cannot borrow anything, we must rely on our traditions, our history, our culture. This is also the front line, on which all Russian specialists in the field of political science, the humanitarian sphere, socio-cultural design are located, ”the speaker continued the military analogy. He also clarified that if earlier political technologists were needed who could win a short election campaign, now they need those who “are able to think in terms of the global war of meanings, who are able to project meanings and ideas that will be competitive in this global struggle, rapidly changing the world.”
Later, at a press approach, Kommersant asked the other organizers of the forum about what kind of reciprocal “meanings” political scientists had already proposed. “Our meanings are based on the values of the family, as written in the amendments to the Constitution. First of all, these are family values, upholding the historical truth, so that we are not told that Alexander Nevsky is a bandit from the high road who robbed respectable Swedish merchants. We need to defend our history,” explained Andrey Shutov, dean of the political science faculty of Moscow State University. “You see how Zelensky stands with the guys who do not hide the Nazi tattoos… The situation is surreal. We look at the President of the United States, who hugs with transvestites, and we also understand that this is an absolute sur… And how do we answer? We respond to Nazism, which promotes the advantage of one race or nation, with the friendship of peoples. For 40 genders – the values of the traditional family. And 75% of the world’s population agrees with this. Here is our proposal to the world, and we find a response to it,” said Zaurbek Khugaev, head of the directorate for the preparation and holding of the forum. “Tradition, family, patriotism, faith in the best and a dream. This is what we talk about with young people,” added Anna Fedulkina, executive director of the Expert Institute for Social Research.
This time, all forum participants will be divided into five areas, each of which will have its own curator: “Youth and the Country” (Higher School of Economics Vice-Rector Dmitry Zemtsov), socio-political expertise (political scientist Alexander Asafov), education and enlightenment (teacher of the Faculty of Political Science Moscow State University Igor Kuznetsov), media and communications (deputy head of the Presidential Office for Public Projects Alexei Zharich), political technologies (political scientist Oleg Matveychev). What exactly they will talk about with young political scientists is a secret. But, as the Kommersant correspondent heard on the sidelines of the forum, it will also be about the presidential elections, both ours and abroad.
