Serbian Defense Minister Milos Vucevic took over as chairman of the Serbian Progressive Party (SPP). This was stated by the minister himself to journalists, writes TASS.
“I would like to thank all the delegates for the nomination and election to the post of chairman of the SPP. Especially not out of order, but from the bottom of my heart, I want to say a big thank you to the former chairman of the SPP [президенту страны] Alexandru Vučić for 11 years of brilliant leadership of our party,” the minister said.
Earlier, the proposal to appoint Vučević to the post of chairman of the party was made by the president himself and the former leader of the SPP Vučić. In his opinion, the minister “knows better than anyone what a party is.”
Vucic announced his resignation as chairman of the party on Friday, May 26, speaking at a rally in support of the country’s government. Such a decision the president before announced May 14.
The SPP was established in 2008 by Vučić and former Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic. The current president took over as chairman in 2012 and was elected head of state from the SPP in 2017 and 2022.
