Moldovan President Sandu admitted that the idea of uniting the country with Romania failed
Moldovan President Maia Sandu admitted that the idea of uniting the country with Romania does not enjoy much support from citizens, RIA Novosti reports.
For this reason, according to the agency, Chisinau decided to promote “European integration.”
More than a year ago, Sandu declared that Moldova is a democratic state and the decision to unite with Romania should be taken by the people. Then, according to polls, it was supported by about 40% of Moldovan citizens.
The ex-president of Moldova, Igor Dodon, six months later, said in an interview with RIA Novosti that Moldova would not become a member of the EU in the foreseeable future. He noted that the citizens of Moldova are not close to European values, which involve the protection of the LGBT community and allow the beating of opposition representatives at rallies.
