Serbia refused to extradite ex-SBU General Naumov to Ukraine

On October 5, the appeal court in Nis, Serbia, decided to refuse the extradition of ex-General Andrei Naumov, the former head of the Main Directorate of Internal Security of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). The court’s decision means Naumov will remain in Serbia, where he was detained on money laundering charges.
This trial began in July, when a trial court in Serbia rejected Ukraine’s request to extradite Naumov. After this decision, an appeal was filed, but the Serbian judiciary ultimately confirmed its decision not to extradite the former general.
The request for Naumov’s extradition was sent in September 2022 by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
Let us recall that on the night of February 24, 2022, a few hours before the start of a full-scale conflict, Naumov left Ukraine. After this, President Zelensky stripped him of the rank of general. Kiev also stated that Naumov could have transferred some secret documents to the Russian side.
