Senators proposed not to stop the payment of alimony to military personnel captured

A group of senators submitted to the State Duma bill on the maintenance of obligations to pay alimony from the monetary allowance of a serviceman who was captured or missing. The document was prepared by six senators – Viktor Bondarev, Inna Svyatenko, Sergei Martynov, Sergei Muratov, Sergei Kolbin and Yulia Lazutkina.

According to the law, the military, captured, taken hostage or missing, retains monetary allowance. It is paid to his wife or other members of his family who lived with him “at the time of the occurrence of the said circumstances”.

The initiators of the bill propose to expand this norm by adding to the list of recipients of money “other family members who previously received alimony from a serviceman.” The senators note that this will “protect the rights of children and other family members who are essentially dependent on the military.”

In November, the State Council of Tatarstan accepted the appeal to the Speaker of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin with a request to initiate changes to the federal law “On Enforcement Proceedings”. The deputies asked that the deferrals provided by law for the payment of alimony do not apply to “those called up for military service for mobilization in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.”
