Senator Tsekov: Moscow will respond to Latvia for recognizing Russia as a “sponsor of terrorism”

Senator Sergei Tsekov said that Moscow will respond to Latvia’s decision to recognize Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism. First of all, we are talking about economic measures.
“I think Russia will take retaliatory measures pointing Latvia to its place, and these measures will be painful for it,” said the senator (quote by RIA Novosti). He clarified that these could be economic sanctions, in particular, a ban on the transit of goods through Russia.
According to Tsekov, Riga’s actions “go beyond all limits” and such “Russophobic decisions will come back to haunt her over time.” He added that Latvia itself can be recognized as a “sponsor of terrorism”, since the country supplies weapons to Ukraine, which the military uses against the civilian population.
Earlier today the Saeima of Latvia acknowledged Russia is a country that supports terrorism. The statement said that Russia “uses violence against civilians” in Ukraine. Latvian parliamentarians believe that other European countries should follow their example and recognize Russia as a sponsor of terrorism.
In addition, Latvia called on the EU countries to immediately suspend the issuance of tourist and entry visas to citizens of Russia and Belarus. Latvia itself has already done it. Also, the issuance of Schengen visas to Russians was suspended by Belgium, Estonia, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, the Netherlands, Malta and Denmark.
