Mother-of-pearl, radiance and marine motifs are experiencing another wave of popularity. Kommersant Style tells how to support a fashion trend without turning into a caricature of the little mermaid Ariel.

Aesthetics of poisonous pink “barbicor” (barbiecore), caused by the hype in connection with the upcoming release of the film “Barbie”, today actively coexists with the mother-of-pearl multicolor of mermaids – a new trend is called mermaidcore, and refers to the word “mermaid” – “mermaid”. The obvious childishness of the colors and message in general kept it from growing up and becoming something more visible and fit for adulthood (costume parties excluded) after the release of numerous versions of The Mermaid since 1989, but today everything has changed. The Little Mermaid, the newest and most technically advanced “The Little Mermaid”, has hit the screens and captured the hearts of both children and adults. On the red carpet, in social networks, in everyday life, being a mermaid is no longer strange at all: look at the image of actress Helen Mirren with blue hair on the red carpet in Cannes, follow the wet makeup of model Hailey Bieber and, of course, pay attention to the ubiquitous ” marine manicure.

The mermaid has crept not only into jewelry, accessories, fashion, but also into cosmetics – a story invented by Hans Christian Andersen, which Hollywood retold in its own positive way, as usual, became an obvious unifying impulse. Everyone who is going to join this should still choose one thing: you can go to a party in a dress a la Holly Bailey, but it is better to leave manicure and makeup neutral. Let the sea overflows become pretty accents on the way to embody the image of a modern mermaid.
