“Sport Express” informs details about the state of health of figure skater Roman Kostomarov, who has been in the hospital since mid-January due to complications from pneumonia. As previously reported, doctors were forced to perform a partial amputation of the upper and lower extremities on the patient.
The publication indicates that a number of experts questioned the need for such operations and assumed medical errors. However, a SE source familiar with the situation around the skater’s treatment said that the doctors had no other choice.
According to the source, tissue necrosis in Kostomarov developed very quickly, the symptoms appeared during the stay on the ventilator. The interlocutor of the publication noted that the doctors could not immediately start the operation due to the serious condition of the patient. He added that doctors had to choose a different treatment tactic – to suspend the development of necrosis until the patient was ready for surgery.
“If you see a black part of the finger, no one will drag it off immediately,” the source said, stressing that doctors tried to apply other possible treatment options, but it turned out to be impossible to avoid amputation.
“SE” indicates that Kostomarov’s hands and one of his feet were amputated. At the same time, the relatives of the athlete previously denied the amputation of the upper limbs.
