Scientists have named the substance that “killed” dinosaurs

Belgian scientists have concluded that silicate rocks could have played a key role in the extinction of dinosaurs.
The authors of a scientific work published in the journal Nature Geoscience concluded that after an asteroid made of silicate rocks fell to Earth, a significant amount of silicon dioxide microparticles appeared as a result of the explosion. These particles were found in corresponding layers of sediment in North Dakota.
Silicon dioxide could have caused a less cold but longer asteroid winter than sulfur dioxide, which is considered the main culprit in the extinction of dinosaurs.
