Scientists have named the countries with the highest chances of surviving a nuclear war

Scientists at Rutgers University in the US state of New Jersey conducted a study related to the chances of humanity to survive in a hypothetical nuclear war and published its results in the journal Nature Food.

The researchers simulated a nuclear conflict scenario. According to them, atomic bombs dropped on cities and industrial centers will cause firestorms, and the atmosphere on the planet will be polluted due to emissions of combustion particles.

All this will lead to the fact that the climate will change, and food supplies on earth and in the oceans will decrease.

Experts have predicted that “if more than 150 teragrams (more than 165 million tons) of soot are released into the atmosphere,” three to four years after the apocalypse, cereal consumption will decrease by about 90%.

They published maps that show that the optimal food intake (the number of kilocalories per capita per day), even with the largest amount of soot emissions into the atmosphere, can be maintained by Australia and Argentina.

Less than other countries, the impact, according to their forecasts, will also be experienced by New Zealand. However, if the nuclear scenario developed by scientists becomes a reality, then New Zealand could face a huge influx of refugees from Asia and other countries suffering from food shortages.

It is noted that the consequences were calculated by scientists on the basis of various possible conflicts between real countries. In particular, if a full-scale nuclear war breaks out between Russia and the United States, then more than 5 billion earthlings may die, and a nuclear winter will begin on the planet.
