Experts from Columbia University (USA) have found out why men most often experience potency disorders, and women lose sexual desire. It turned out that these are not vascular or neurological diseases at all, as was previously thought. The reason for failures in intimate life lies primarily in the head.

“There has always been an opinion among doctors that the most common causes of impotence are all kinds of diseases,” says psychologist and sexologist Oleg Shevchenko, who studied the research materials. – Such as disorders of the central nervous system, peripheral nerves, atherosclerotic changes in the coronary and penal vessels, diabetes mellitus, etc. However, this latest study indicates that most often there is still psychogenic impotence – permanent or temporary, it occurs in men experiencing prolonged physical or intellectual stress, or having psychological problems with the opposite sex. Psychogenic impotence is based on a decrease in the sensitivity of the cavernous tissue due to the suppressive effect of the cerebral cortex or due to secondary influence through the spinal centers. It can also develop against the background of sexual phobias, psychotrauma and religious prejudices.

It should be noted that women are also subject to the same effects – although their asexuality is not as obvious as in men, they also suffer from psychogenic factors in the form of a sharp decrease in libido.
