Employees of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography SB RAS examined the fire reserves of the Ob region
Scientists from the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography SB RAS conducted a study of early modern artifacts in the north of the Upper Ob and discovered “fire reserves” of the Novosibirsk Ob region in the early 18th century.
They established that in the Urtam, Umrevinsky, Chaussky and Berdsky forts there were cannons that were used by archers and Cossacks. Sets of cannonballs were part of the artillery resource stored in the forts. Scientists mapped isolated finds of cannonballs on the territory of the Novosibirsk Ob region and found that the number of cannon barrels in the fortresses could be a dozen or more.
Findings of cannonballs confirm the presence of artillery reserves in the forts and serve as indirect evidence of the presence of various cannon barrels, even if there is no evidence of these guns in the written sources of their time.
