Scientists have figured out how green light reduces pain

Experts from Fudan University traced the neuronal activity of mice in a bundle from eyes to brain to understand why green light can dull pain. Study published in Science Translational Medicine.
Green light, scientists say, reduces the severity of pain in people with diagnoses such as arthritis, migraine, fibromyalgia. However, it has not yet been established why this is so.
The researchers studied the visual apparatus of mice, in particular the system that is responsible for photosensitivity. By shining green light on lab rodents, the scientists found that the light promoted greater gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) signaling, which slows neuronal activity, including those associated with feelings of fear and anxiety.
Thus, scientists were able to identify the Penk gene, which helps dull pain.
